On 6 September 2005 twenty participants from England, Scotland, Wales, Northen Ireland, the United States, Sweden, and Germany met to discuss about emotion and their role in HCI. We actually found that there are so many aspects of HCI related to emotion, and of emotion related to HCI, that we won't be able to discuss them all on one day (what surprise!).

We then split into two groups discussing two topics: sensing related issues, and application related issues. Discussions were held in a friendly and constructive manner, though sometimes quite emotinal which was acceptable given the topic of the workshop. Time was definitely too short to produce proper results, so we decided to carry on discussions by email and other means, working together on publications and contributions to the next workshop, next year.

People said they enjoid the workshop and it has been a valuable experience for them:

We found the day very worthwhile and it has provided us with new avenues to explore in our own research. - Harry Agius and Arthur G Money, UK

Thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and diverse (though constructive) views.
It seems to me that there were some major themes: applications of emotion in interaction;
detection of emotion  in users; generation of emotive interfaces; theories of emotion and interaction -
and some great overlaps between these as well.
- Russel Beale, UK

... it was full of emotions and very enjoyable once. - Hanna Stelmaszewska, UK

I enjoyed the workshop very much, it gave me new insights,
opened perspectives, and helped me to get a picture of what others
do with respect to emotion.
- Christian Peter, Germany
